Baltimore native Freddie Gray's death while in police custody sent waves of anger across the country. The Black Lives Matter movement sadly had a new name to add to it's long list of black men killed at the hands of police and as a result, protests erupted from coast to coast. For New Yorkers, who were still reeling from the chokehold death of Eric Garner by the NYPD, a raw nerve was struck. Protesters took to Manhattan streets and more than 100 were arrested in under six hours. On assignment for Reuters, I covered the demonstrations into the night.
