I was assigned to the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn to cover a memorial day celebration. It seemed a little odd but it was actually incredible. This is a destination cemetery. Beautiful crypts and monuments spread out comfortably on what has to be the greenest grass in the city. Dotted amongst the trees were happy families and friends, picnicking on a seriously perfect Spring day. My guide alerted me to the fact that back in the old times, a day out to the cemetery such as this wasn't uncommon. With open sewers and horse crap littering the streets, Green-Wood was an escape from the squalor of the city with an exploding population.
