Since last year's Fifa World Cup in Brazil, it feels as though the appetite for soccer in the USA is at an all time high. So when the even more successful women's team lined up for the Women's World Cup, the country tuned in and wore their colors. In an epic performance, the USA defeated Japan in the final and were world champions (again). New York responded with a ticker tape parade for the returning victors. It was the first time a non New York team was treated to one and also the first women's team to receive the honor. The morning of the parade, downtown was packed. The national heroes were greeted by masses of locals and the parade culminated in a reception at City Hall (complete with confetti canons, pictured here). I love soccer and it was a blast shooting what I see as another huge step in the growth of the sport here in America.
