Around the world on Thursday night, people unified in a show of support for the nation of Syria and it's ever degrading situation. In 35 countries, people replicated the iconic Banksy art piece of the girl with the red balloon. In a quote from the campaign's web page, "Banksy’s iconic Girl with the Red Balloon is a picture of hope. The red balloon carries the girl above and away from the chaos below, beyond the burnt-out buildings and bullet-potted walls." I covered one of the stops on Roosevelt Island at the FDR Memorial. It was insanely cold and STILL people showed up, stood on an achingly cold island in the middle of the East River and held balloons. Like this guy, trying to shield himself from the relentless wind from hell. Still, it's better than standing anywhere in Aleppo right now.
